disable-youtube\" data-module=\"govspeak\">\n<p>You can apply to come to the UK as a representative of an overseas business if you\u2019re from outside the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/eu-eea\">European Economic Area (EEA)<\/a> and Switzerland and you\u2019re either:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the sole representative of an overseas company planning to set up a UK branch or a wholly owned subsidiary for an overseas parent company<\/li>\n<li>an employee of an overseas newspaper, news agency or broadcasting organisation posted on a long-term assignment to the UK<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You must also meet the other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/representative-overseas-business\/eligibility\">eligibility requirements<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-long-it-will-take\">How long it will take<\/h2>\n<p>The earliest you can apply is 3 months before you travel.<\/p>\n<div class=\"example\">\n<p>Example You can apply from 16 March if you plan to travel on 15 June.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>You should get a decision on your visa within 3 weeks when you apply from outside the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Check the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/visa-processing-times\">guide processing times<\/a> to find out how long getting a visa might take in your country.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"fees\">Fees<\/h2>\n<p>A Representative of an Overseas Business visa costs \u00a3610.<\/p>\n<p>An employee of an overseas newspaper, news agency or broadcasting organisation costs \u00a3610.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"healthcare-surcharge\">Healthcare surcharge<\/h3>\n<p>You must <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/healthcare-immigration-application\/pay\">pay the healthcare surcharge<\/a> as part of your application. Check <a href=\"https:\/\/www.immigration-health-surcharge.service.gov.uk\/checker\/type\" rel=\"external\">how much you need to pay<\/a> before you apply.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-long-you-can-stay\">How long you can stay<\/h2>\n<p>You can come to the UK for an initial period of 3 years.<\/p>\n<p>You may be able to extend your visa for another 2 years.<\/p>\n<p>After you\u2019ve been in the UK for 5 years, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/settle-in-the-uk\">apply for permission to settle permanently in the UK<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-you-can-and-cannot-do\">What you can and cannot do<\/h2>\n<p>You can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>work for your employer, full time<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/representative-overseas-business\/family-members\">bring your family<\/a> (\u2018dependants\u2019) with you to the UK<\/li>\n<li>extend your visa multiple times<\/li>\n<li>apply to settle in the UK after you\u2019ve been here for 5 years<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You cannot:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>work for yourself or any other business<\/li>\n<li>stay in the UK if the sole representative arrangement is ended by your employer<\/li>\n<li>switch to this visa from any other visa category<\/li>\n<li>get <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/public-funds--2\">public funds<\/a><br \/>\n<h1 class=\"part-title\">Eligibility<\/h1>\n<div class=\"gem-c-govspeak govuk-govspeak direction-ltr disable-youtube\" data-module=\"govspeak\">\n<p>To be eligible for this visa you must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>apply from outside the EEA<\/li>\n<li>have enough money to support yourself without help from public funds<\/li>\n<li>meet the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/representative-overseas-business\/knowledge-of-english\">English requirement<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 id=\"sole-representatives\">Sole representatives<\/h3>\n<p>If you are coming to the UK as a sole representative you must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>be recruited and employed outside the UK by a company whose headquarters and principal place of business are outside the UK<\/li>\n<li>have extensive related industry experience and knowledge<\/li>\n<li>hold a senior position within the company (but not be a major shareholder) and have full authority to make decisions on its behalf<\/li>\n<li>intend to establish the company\u2019s first commercial presence in the UK, for example a registered branch or a wholly owned subsidiary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You may also be eligible if the company has a legal entity in the UK that does not employ staff or transact business.<\/p>\n<p>If your company has been working to establish a UK branch or subsidiary, but it is not yet set up, you can replace a previous sole representative.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"newspaper-news-agency-or-broadcast-employees\">Newspaper, news agency or broadcast employees<\/h3>\n<p>As an employee of an overseas newspaper, news agency or broadcasting organisation, you can come to the UK if you\u2019re being posted here on a long-term assignment.<\/p>\n<h1 class=\"part-title\">Knowledge of English<\/h1>\n<div class=\"gem-c-govspeak govuk-govspeak direction-ltr disable-youtube\" data-module=\"govspeak\">\n<p>You may need to prove your knowledge of the English language when you apply.<\/p>\n<p>You can prove your knowledge of English by either:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>passing an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/guidance-on-applying-for-uk-visa-approved-english-language-tests\">approved English language test<\/a> with at least CEFR level A1 in speaking and listening<\/li>\n<li>having an academic qualification that was taught in English and is recognised by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.naric.org.uk\/visasandnationality\" rel=\"external\">UK NARIC<\/a> as being equivalent to a UK bachelor\u2019s degree, master\u2019s degree or PhD<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You may be able to meet the English language requirement in other ways. Check the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/representatives-of-overseas-businesses\">full visa guidance<\/a> for detailed information.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"exceptions\">Exceptions<\/h2>\n<p>You will not need to prove your knowledge of English if you\u2019re a national of one of the following countries:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Antigua and Barbuda<\/li>\n<li>Australia<\/li>\n<li>the Bahamas<\/li>\n<li>Barbados<\/li>\n<li>Belize<\/li>\n<li>Canada<\/li>\n<li>Dominica<\/li>\n<li>Grenada<\/li>\n<li>Guyana<\/li>\n<li>Jamaica<\/li>\n<li>New Zealand<\/li>\n<li>St Kitts and Nevis<\/li>\n<li>St Lucia<\/li>\n<li>St Vincent and the Grenadines<\/li>\n<li>Trinidad and Tobago<\/li>\n<li>USA<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You also may not have to prove your knowledge of English in other circumstances &#8211; check the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/representatives-of-overseas-businesses\">visa guidance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h1 class=\"part-title\">Documents you must provide<\/h1>\n<div class=\"gem-c-govspeak govuk-govspeak direction-ltr disable-youtube\" data-module=\"govspeak\">\n<p>When you apply you\u2019ll need to provide:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a current passport or other valid travel identification<\/li>\n<li>evidence that you can support yourself and any dependants during your trip, for example bank statements or payslips for the last 6 months<\/li>\n<li>details of where you\u2019ll be staying during your stay<\/li>\n<li>proof that you meet the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/representative-overseas-business\/knowledge-of-english\">English requirement<\/a><\/li>\n<li>your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/tb-test-visa\">tuberculosis test results<\/a> if you\u2019re from a country where you have to take the test<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You\u2019ll need to have a blank page in your passport on which to put the visa.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll need to provide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/certifying-a-document\">a certified translation<\/a> of any documents that are not in English or Welsh.<\/p>\n<p>Read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/representatives-of-overseas-businesses\">guide for a list of documents you can provide<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"application-notice info-notice\" role=\"note\" aria-label=\"Information\">\n<p>You may need to provide additional documents depending on your circumstances.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"sole-representatives\">Sole representatives<\/h2>\n<p>When applying as a sole representative of an overseas company you\u2019ll need to provide:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a full description of the parent company\u2019s activities, including details of assets and accounts<\/li>\n<li>a letter confirming the overseas company will establish a wholly-owned subsidiary or register a branch in the UK in the same business activity as the parent company<\/li>\n<li>your job description, employment contract and salary details<\/li>\n<li>a letter confirming you\u2019re familiar with the company and have the power to take operational decisions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You should also provide evidence that you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>are directly employed by the parent company and are not acting as a sales agent (ie hired by a company to sell or distribute their products within the UK, but working for yourself and providing your services for a fee)<\/li>\n<li>were recruited to the company outside of the UK, hold a senior position and are able to make decisions on its behalf and have the authority to establish and operate a registered branch<\/li>\n<li>will be working full time for the company for the duration of your stay and will not carry out any other work<\/li>\n<li>are not a majority shareholder in the company<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"newspaper-news-agency-or-broadcast-employees\">Newspaper, news agency or broadcast employees<\/h2>\n<p>As an employee of an overseas newspaper, news agency or broadcasting organisation you must also provide:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a full description of the parent company\u2019s activities, including details of assets and accounts<\/li>\n<li>confirmation that you will be representing them in the UK in a long term, full-time role<\/li>\n<li>\n<h1 class=\"part-title\">Apply<\/h1>\n<div class=\"gem-c-govspeak govuk-govspeak direction-ltr disable-youtube\" data-module=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/representatives-of-overseas-businesses\">Representative of an Overseas Business guidance<\/a> before you apply.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"apply-outside-the-uk\">Apply outside the UK<\/h2>\n<p>You must <a href=\"https:\/\/visas-immigration.service.gov.uk\/other-ooc\" rel=\"external\">apply online<\/a> for a Representative of an Overseas Business visa.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll need to have your fingerprints and photograph (known as \u2018biometric information\u2019) taken at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/find-a-visa-application-centre\">visa application centre<\/a> as part of your application.<\/p>\n<p>You may be able to get your visa faster or other services depending on what country you\u2019re in &#8211; check with your visa application centre.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"north-korea\">North Korea<\/h3>\n<p>You cannot apply online if you\u2019re living in North Korea.<\/p>\n<p>To apply from North Korea you must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>download the relevant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/application-for-uk-visa-non-pbs-work-or-uk-ancestry-form-vaf2\">application form<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/guidance-on-uk-visa-applications-using-forms-vaf2-to-vaf8b\">form guidance<\/a><\/li>\n<li>read the instructions for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/democratic-peoples-republic-of-korea-apply-for-a-uk-visa\">North Korea<\/a> on how to apply<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"apply-in-the-uk\">Apply in the UK<\/h2>\n<p>You can only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/representative-overseas-business\/extend-your-visa\">extend<\/a> your existing visa if you\u2019re already in the UK.<\/p>\n<h1 class=\"part-title\">Extend your visa<\/h1>\n<div class=\"gem-c-govspeak govuk-govspeak direction-ltr disable-youtube\" data-module=\"govspeak\">\n<p>You can apply to extend your stay in the UK under a Representative of an Overseas Business visa.<\/p>\n<p>You should include any dependants who are on your current visa on your application to extend &#8211; including children who have turned 18 during your stay.<\/p>\n<div class=\"application-notice info-notice\" role=\"note\" aria-label=\"Information\">\n<p>You should apply before your current visa expires.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"eligibility\">Eligibility<\/h2>\n<p>You must already have this visa as either:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a representative of an overseas business<\/li>\n<li>an employee of an overseas newspaper, news agency or broadcasting organisation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You must also meet the following conditions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>you\u2019re still working for the same employer as when you were issued your previous visa<\/li>\n<li>you\u2019re still working to establish the company\u2019s first presence in the UK<\/li>\n<li>your employer\u2019s principal place of business is still outside the UK<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You must be in the UK to extend your visa.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-long-you-can-stay\">How long you can stay<\/h2>\n<p>A Representative of an Overseas Business visa can be extended for up to 2 years after the original visa duration of 3 years.<\/p>\n<p>Your visa can be extended for 3 years if your previous Representative of an Overseas Business visa was issued before 1 October 2009.<\/p>\n<p>You can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/settle-in-the-uk\">apply to settle<\/a> once you have been in the UK for 5 years and you have an ongoing job with the same company.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"fees\">Fees<\/h2>\n<p>For each person applying, you\u2019ll need to pay:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a3704 to extend this visa<\/li>\n<li>the healthcare surcharge &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.immigration-health-surcharge.service.gov.uk\/checker\/type\" rel=\"external\">check how much you\u2019ll have to pay<\/a><\/li>\n<li>\u00a319.20 to have your biometric information (fingerprints and a photo) taken<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"how-to-extend-your-visa\">How to extend your visa<\/h2>\n<p>You must <a href=\"https:\/\/visas-immigration.service.gov.uk\/product\/flr-ir\" rel=\"external\">apply online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"providing-biometric-information-and-supporting-documents\">Providing biometric information and supporting documents<\/h3>\n<p>When you apply, you\u2019ll be asked to make an appointment at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/ukvcas\">UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services (<abbr title=\"UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services\">UKVCAS<\/abbr>)<\/a> service point to provide your biometric information (your fingerprints and a photo).<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll also need to submit your supporting documents. You can: &#8211; upload them into the online service &#8211; have them scanned at your <abbr title=\"UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services\">UKVCAS<\/abbr> appointment<\/p>\n<div class=\"application-notice info-notice\" role=\"note\" aria-label=\"Information\">\n<p>You must not travel outside of the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man until you get a decision. Your application will be withdrawn if you do.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3 id=\"get-help-using-a-computer-to-apply-online\">Get help using a computer to apply online<\/h3>\n<p>You can get help with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>accessing a computer or the internet<\/li>\n<li>finding the right information on GOV.UK<br \/>\n<h1 class=\"part-title\">Family members<\/h1>\n<div class=\"gem-c-govspeak govuk-govspeak direction-ltr disable-youtube\" data-module=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Your family members (\u2018dependants\u2019) can come with you when you come to the UK on this visa. They must <a href=\"https:\/\/visas-immigration.service.gov.uk\/product\/flr-ir\" rel=\"external\">apply online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s best to submit your dependants\u2019 applications at the same time as yours.<\/p>\n<div class=\"application-notice info-notice\" role=\"note\" aria-label=\"Information\">\n<p>Members of your family cannot apply in the UK as your dependant if they hold a <a
